Invisalign is clearly a popular orthodontic treatment due to its convenience, comfort, and predictable results. Naturally, you need to do your part to achieve the best smile possible. Your compliance in wearing the aligners as instructed and following the guidelines of your treatment is essential to its overall success.
At Champlain Smile Solutions in South Burlington, Vermont, Drs. Matthew and Kay Giulianelli offer these seven tips for having a successful Invisalign procedure:
You need to wear the aligners full-time, removing them mainly to eat and brush your teeth. The longer you keep the aligners on your teeth, the quicker you’ll see results! You can set a timer when you eat to help you keep track of how long the aligners have been removed until you get adjusted to a good wear schedule.
You’ll be given a series of aligners to wear at designated times throughout your procedure. Every two weeks or so, you’ll switch to a new set to keep up the momentum of moving your teeth. Changing the aligners on time will ensure you stay on track with your treatment timeline.

With Invisalign, there are no dietary restrictions because you remove the aligners to eat. This includes snacks and meals, as well as any drink other than water. Eating with your aligners puts them at risk of damage, which can delay completion of your treatment.

Your aligners should be cleaned daily by brushing them gently with non-abrasive liquid soap or Invisalign cleaning solution and rinsing them in warm (never hot!) water. This prevents staining and bacterial buildup that can increase your risk of cavities. When not in use, store the aligners in a safe container to avoid accidental loss or damage.
Brush and floss your teeth well after every meal to keep plaque buildup to a minimum. Poor oral hygiene can lead to tooth decay or gum disease, which can delay the completion of your treatment. Removable aligners make it easy to keep your mouth clean, so it’s important you do your part by brushing and flossing diligently.
With Invisalign, there’s no need for frequent dental visits as there are no brackets or wires to adjust. You should, however, keep all scheduled appointments so we can monitor your progress, examine your teeth, and ensure your procedure is going smoothly.
Upon completion of your treatment, we’ll give you a retainer to wear and instruct you on its use. Wearing your retainer as instructed will keep your smile straight, beautiful, and even for years to come.
